DAY 3: CUSCO CITY TOUR

When you awake, your vacation starts anew. Now it’s our turn to show you exactly what Cusco, Peru is all about.

Start your day off with a yummy breakfast of local favorites in your hotel, and take a while to get yourself tour-ready.  Once the evening rolls around, your guided tour will begin. A GOTOPERU rep will pick you up at your hotel and thus your guided adventure starts.

Here are a few of the guided tour spots for day two of your journey:

A guided tour of Cusco – Peru’s historic capital

A close-up look at ancient Incan architecture and the region’s Spanish Colonial influences

Visit the world-famous Q’enko – a large, historic amphitheater were ceremonial sacrifices once took place

See the church build on top the Temple of the Sun, the Cathedral of Santo Domingo

Witness great Incan monuments such as Tambomachay, the site where water worshipers once gathered; and Sacsayhuaman, a large Incan fortress with hand-carved stones (as seen on popular television series like Ancient Aliens)

Finally, enjoy visiting Incan tambo, which is the travelers’ rest stop of Puka Pukara

After this guided tour is over, you will be taken back to your hotel, where you’re free to enjoy the rest of your night. We recommend taking in more of the local culture by visiting some nearby shops, or mingling with the locals. However, you may want to rest up well.

DAY 7: LA PAZ CITY TOUR MOON VALLEY

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast and our first visit will be the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) in the southern part of La Paz. Because the area is composed of clay rather than rock, erosion has worn away large parts of the mountain creating impressive formations that offer us a lunar landscape. After our visit we go for a ride in the famous Teleférico and we continue to some of the most famous viewpoints of La Paz including Killi Killi. After lunch (not included) our first stop on the tour is the Plaza Murillo (km 0), where we can see the Presidential Palace, the Parliament and the Cathedral. We visit the colonial street Calle Jaén and the old part of the town from where we continue to the famous church San Francisco which was built by the indigenous people, followed by the commercial area of La Paz with its colourful markets, crafts, silver, wood and traditional textiles. At Nuestra Señora de La Paz we follow the route of the traditional women of the city, the Cholitas, and their commercial activities starting at the Mercado Uruguay which is particular today because it retains its colonial aspect with vegetables, seeds and animals sold from the sam e area. We continue to the Mercado Rodriguez which is open all week but during the weekends it expands to take up all the adjoining streets. We continue to the Calle Sagarnaga – the main shopping street for typical clothes and handicrafts. From here we also visit the Calle de las Brujas (the Witches street) and we finish our tour at the craft market of San Francisco

DAY 8: UYUNI ARRIVAL VISIT OF SALAR UYUNI

According to the time of your flight you are transferred to the airport in El Alto. Upon arrival in Uyuni a member of our local team will be waiting to bring you to Uyuni, where you have time to visit a bit before we leave for the tour. We start our journey around 10h30 in the morning and our first stop will be the locomotive cemetery which is a vestige of more prosperous times. From here we continue to Colchani which is a small village situated on the edge of the Salar and who’s inhabitants live from salt exploitation. In Colchani we discover how the salt is processed manually and we visit the small salt boutique, which also serves as a museum, where we can see large salt carvings and other objects (pottery, jewellery, tools, etc.). After this impressive visit  with the craftsmen on the top of  the world  we  enter the famous  Salar de Uyuni;  the biggest  salt  desert  in  the world  with  acreage of

10.582km²/4.086mi2. One of the particularities of the Uyuni Salt Flat is that it contains a reserve of 9 million tonnes of Lithium which represents 40% of

world production. We head to the Island Incahuasi which mistakenly is better known as the Fisherman’s Island. This geological formation is a remnant of petrified coral and is covered in giant cacti that can get up to 12m/39.37ft high. From the top of the island we have a wonderful 360° view of the Salar de Uyuni. After lunch we continue to the north of the Salar to Coquesa or Tahua at the foot of the Tunupa where we spend the night

DAY 9: TOUR TUNUPA VOLCAN
