DAY 1: LIMA ARRIVAL

A GOTOPERU representative will be waiting to greet you as soon as you arrive in Lima. We’re ready to offer world-class treatment for what is bound to be a vacation of a lifetime. Get introduced to the city and then enjoy accommodations on our private shuttle, en route to your hotel.

DAY 2: LIMA CITY TOUR

You will get to view the Pre-Colombian era, Colonial Lima, and modern-day Lima. Get ready, because this two-pronged tour starts rather early.

  • Leg one of the tour starts out a paronamic view over Huaca Pucllana, which is a famous and historic archeological site.
  • Now it’s on to Lima’s Historic Center. This is the location where the city’s historic religious and political buildings can be found. Not only is this a legitimate World Heritage site, certified by UNESCO, but it’s also one of the most well preserved examples on earth of different cultures having significant influence in architecture. The unique architecture of buildings like the Art Museum, The Palace of Justice and The French Palace truly stand as awe inspiring. And the best part about the Historic Center is that there’s always more to see, including the Plaza of San Martin – a historic monument constructed to celebrate the anniversary of Peru’s independence.
  • The previous locations are mostly shown to you via transport (like a city bus tour, only better). The next locations are actual hands-on visits. So, get off your transport and walk a little, straight to the Plaza Mayor. This is where you’re going to find those awesome historic political and religious buildings, like The Cathedral, City Hall, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Palace of Government. You will also get to visit the San Francisco Convent Museum and see the catacombs underneath. It’s a total vacation by itself.
  • Now that the walking is over, hop back on your transport; it’s time to head back to your hotel. Though, on the way, take note of the beautiful panoramic views of Modern Lima. Snap photos and take in the entire skyline of the Financial District in San Isidro, as well as the gorgeous landscape of Miraflores. Feel free to explore further and take advantage of stops along the way, such as the Larcomar cliffs on Lima’s coastline. And don’t forget to get your fill of the delicious Peruvian dishes.

DAY 3: TRUJILLO ARRIVAL, CHAN CHAN AND HUANCHACO TOUR

Immediately after arriving, you will be picked up by a GOTOPERU representative and transferred in style to your selected in hotel in Trujillo – or in Huanchaco, depending on the specific vacation plans, time of year, and number of reservations.

Your private Trujillo tour will show you Peru like you’ve never seen it before, and like you cannot see anywhere else. Some of the highlights of your tour will include:

  • A private, guided tour of Huaca de la Luna, which is an ancient mud pyramid crafted by the Moche people (between 100 and 750 AC). This pyramid is decorated from heel to tip with various paintings representing Ai-Paec, their god, who is ominously known as the Decapitator.
  • A visit to the accompanying museum, wherein you will learn all about Ai-Paec, the sacrificial rituals, the customs of the era, the Moche people, and much, much more.
  • A trip to a beautiful, secluded beach town, Huanchaco, where you see how the local fishermen thrive using their ancient craft with boats made out of reed
  • A visit to the capital of the Chimu Dynasty, Chan Chan, and a tour of the largest adobe city (red clay) in the Americas. Plus, a visit to the on-site museum to learn more about the area and culture
  • A bed-and-breakfast stay at a local hotel

DAY 4: CHICLAYO ARRIVAL AND HUACA EL BRUJO TOUR

As the capital city of the historic Lambayeque region in northern Peru, Chiclayo has plenty to offer for vacationers of all ages. With this private tour package, you can see the area like you’ve never imagined. A GOTOPERU rep will pick you up and arrange private transport for you from your hotel to Chiclayo. This is about an hour and a half drive, with plenty of breathtaking scenery along the way to keep you busy.

After reaching Huaca el Brujo, you will instantly realize the trip was more than worth it. This huge adobe (red clay) pyramid was constructed during the reign of the Moche people, which was roughly from 100-750 AC – so, over 1,500 years, give or take. You will see just how well the clay has held up over the years; actually better than some of the famous Incan stones throughout other Peru locations. This pyramid isn’t only beautiful and a feat of architectural genius for the time; it’s also very significant historically speaking. It is where the Lady of Cao lived: The first female emperor of Peru. It is filled with various paintings, in good condition, which depict the Lady of Cao in various stages of rule.

Huaca el Brujo also has an on-site museum which houses the remains of the empress, something that is exceedingly rare on a world scale. Most emperors, kings and other rulers’ remains are lost to dust over time.

After seeing the pyramid and visiting the museum, the trip continues to other Chiclayo locations. Some of the places you can expect to see on this tour include:

  • The Chiclayo Center’s herbal market, where even modern-day Shaman still shop to purchase their medicinal herbs
  • The Monsefu shop, where you can pick up a wide range of local items and gifts, most of which are handcrafted by the artisans of the area
  • Santa Rosa, which is a picturesque, historic location where you can see modern-day fisherman using the same techniques to catch fish that were used thousands of years ago
  • Pimentel, which is a similar fishing village where the fisherman craft their rafts out of reed (totora), as has been done for millennia
  • To cap this tour off perfectly, you will get to stay overnight in a great hotel, and wake up to a delicious breakfast packed with tasty regional items.

DAY 5: LORD OF SIPAN AND TUCUME TOUR

This travel option is an exclusive private tour that will guide you through some of the most significant archaeological sites in Peru. The first destination of the tour is the site of Tucume. This isn’t simply one pyramid, or even a few; it’s actually an entire small city of pyramids – 26 separate pyramids, all of which are truncated (without tops) yet still stand around 35 meters high on average. These pyramids are from the Lambayeque culture, which was prevalent in the region from 800-1470 AC.

After visiting these impressive pyramids and learning about the history of the people who created them, it’s off to the Tumbas Reales museum. Rather than dinosaur bones or some other ancient artifacts that can found all over the world, this is a very unique museum. It houses the remains of the Lord of Sipan, his tomb on display to the public. For Latin America in particular, the discovery of this tomb (1987) is considered the most important in many decades.

After visiting the museum that houses the tomb of Lord Sipan, you’re going to take another journey to the Huaca Rajada site, where the tomb was discovered. You can see many ancient remnants left behind in this location, and you will learn about the people of the time, Lord Sipan himself, and the inner workings of the Mochica hierarchy.

Pyramids, ancient tombs, and plenty of culture – the trip will conclude with a transfer to the bus station or to a local airport, and you can connect with the next city in Peru.

DAY 6: PUNO ARRIVAL AND TOUR OF CHULLPAS OF SILLUSTANI

Once you have arrived in Puno, you can catch a scheduled ride to Chullpas of Sillustani. These are funerary towers which date pre-Incan, meaning they have been standing for thousands of years.

After this tour, you will be transfer to your selected hotel and then have the entire night to see the sights and hear the sounds of the area. Grab some great food, visit one of the many shops, or just make it a night in while enjoying your comfortable accommodations.

DAY 7: TOUR OF LAKE TITICACA

Trip highlights include:
•    Tour of the Uros Islands to experience the simple life of the local people.
•    Visit to Taquile Island to get a rare glimpse into Peruvian indigenous culture.
•    Lunch in the town of Luquina.
A boat will take you back to Puno in the afternoon where you can use the rest of the day to shop, tour or rest.

DAY 8: SUN ROAD TOUR PUNO TO CUSCO

Your GOTOPERU representative will come to your hotel and offer you a private transfer to embark on your journey to Cusco.
Trip highlights include:
•    Visit to San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, Sistine Chapel of America.
•    A tour of Raqchi, an archaeological site with public baths, a large aqua duct system and stone terraces.
•    A buffet style lunch break in Sicuani Village.
•    A chance to explore La Raya, the border town between Cusco and Puno.
•    Tour the Pukara Archaeological Site featuring a large pyramid and museum.
You will end your day at a hotel in Cusco.

DAY 9: CUSCO CITY TOUR

When you awake, your vacation starts anew. Now it’s our turn to show you exactly what Cusco, Peru is all about.

Start your day off with a yummy breakfast of local favorites in your hotel, and take a while to get yourself tour-ready. The evening guided tour will include many great stop-offs, but don’t forget to branch out on your own to see the sights and sounds, explore locations like San Pedro Market, and soak up as much culture as your heart desires.

Once the evening rolls around, your guided tour will begin. A GOTOPERU rep will pick you up at your hotel and thus your guided adventure starts.

Here are a few of the guided tour spots for day two of your journey:

  • A guided tour of Cusco – Peru’s historic capital
  • A close-up look at ancient Incan architecture and the region’s Spanish Colonial influences
  • Visit the world-famous Q’enko – a large, historic amphitheater were ceremonial sacrifices once took place
  • See the church build on top the Temple of the Sun, the Cathedral of Santo Domingo
  • Witness great Incan monuments such as Tambomachay, the site where water worshipers once gathered; and Sacsayhuaman, a large Incan fortress with hand-carved stones (as seen on popular television series like Ancient Aliens)
  • Finally, enjoy visiting Incan tambo, which is the travelers’ rest stop of Puka Pukara

After this guided tour is over, you will be taken back to your hotel, where you’re free to enjoy the rest of your night. We recommend taking in more of the local culture by visiting some nearby shops, or mingling with the locals. However, you may want to rest up well.

DAY 10: MARAS AND MORAY TOUR

Grab a good, filling breakfast at your hotel in Cusco; you have a full day ahead of you. After you eat, you will be taken to the historic, quaint towns of Maras and Moray.

Moray is one of the purest traditional Incan locations in the region. You will get to see the ancient Incan community in a brand new light, while also seeing and learning about the ancient Incan agriculture which defies belief and introduces you to perhaps the highlight of the entire trip: the world’s prototypical greenhouse, the Sunken Concentric Rings.

The town of Maras is equally impressive, giving you full access to some of the oldest salt mines in the world. Salt played such an important part of the world in ancient times, acting as currency and even starting large and enduring conflicts. It was also a trading staple of the Incan people. These salt mines are made up of over 2,000 shallow pools of water today, still in use despite providing tons and tons of salt for many thousands of years.

After a full day’s worth of adventure, You will spend the night at the amazing Sacred Valley. GOTOPERU has shown you a lot of Incan culture thus far. Now, it’s your turn to create your own itinerary. You have the rest of the night and the entire next day to experience the region on your own.
